Cysts of Oral Mucosa

  • ·  Oral mucosal cysts are generally well-defined in their borders, non-tender and slow-growing. The mucosa looks normal unless it is injured.
  • The most common is an epidermoid or dermoid cyst, which grows on the floor of the mouth. Treatment is surgical removal.
  • A gingival cyst is often located near the first molars. A simple surgical excision is recommended as a treatment.
  • A lymphoepithelial cyst occurs when the epithelium is trapped in lymph tissue.
  • An excisional biopsy is an ideal treatment. Thyroglossal tract cysts form between the foramen cecum and thyroid gland. Complete removal is recommended
